Prague ticket validation?

I am planning to visit Prague for the 1st time and I understand that transportation tickets need validating. What I am unsure of is if I purchase a 3 day ticket does it have to be vaildated everytime I use transportation or just the once when originally purchsed ? Also would this ticket cover all transport (trams, metro, bus)
