Test problems on updated version of Firefox...?

My boyfriend has just updated his Powerbook G4 (with OSX) with the latest version of Firefox. The text on certain websites has started to turn into a kind of symbol font, similar to 'windings.' It has made a lot of websites unreadable and we're having to paste everything into text edit to read it! It looks like it only does it to a certain font. Any ideas?
