Mouth problems...please help?

Last year I had an issue with my mouth and gums and I'm not sure what it is. My gums were swollen and really really red. They were super sore and my breath was really bad. I got canker sores all over my cheeks and lips on the inside. Towards the end I got two hard feeling things on the roof of my mouth. It lasted for about 2 weeks and then healed up. I couldn't eat hardly anything that I lost 14 pounds those 2 weeks. After it healed everything went back to normal but now randomly my gum swells up and is sore but its always around like only one tooth. I've had really bad gum problems since...any ideas on what it was and if I should have went to the dentist??
