What happens when we're gone?

The thought of any kind of an afterlife is surreal to me. I go numb, but I really don't feel anything. I don't know what to believe, to be honest. Aside from the mainstream Christian views (I know, I'll get burned for that, but I don't want to hear that I have to accept Jesus as my savior so I can go to heaven, I got force-fed that my entire life), what do you PERSONALLY believe happens when we die (aside from what your religion has taught you)? Do we just no longer exist, do we go somewhere else, or do we reincarnate? And if we reincarnate, how come we don't remember any of our lives before this one?
